REIKI is derived from two Japanese words - Rei, meaning “universal,” and Ki, meaning “life energy.” The originator of this method of healing both oneself and others was Dr. Mikao Usui, a Catholic priest. After a long period of meditation and fasting on a sacred mountain, he was gifted with the ability to heal, accompanied by the vision of symbols that became visible to him during this spiritual experience.
Simply put, Reiki is a practice of transferring energy through gentle hand placement on the body. It consists of energy, light, and love. Along with deep relaxation and, very often, immediate pain relief, recipients may feel a pleasant warmth spreading through the body — for some, even tingling sensations or visions of purple or white light. Brain waves slow down, stress melts away, and the body's cells begin to regenerate more easily.

It’s important to note that Reiki is not the same as bioenergy. The therapist does not transfer their own personal energy, but rather serves as a channel through which universal life energy flows. This energy helps restore damaged cells and brings a deep sense of peace and joy. Many people report a profound feeling of connection with everything around them during Reiki treatments. A special glow often appears in the eyes — and a spontaneous desire to embrace the world arises.
